Ceramics part 3

The above photo is the mould i made in half with the clay ready to come out and be shaped and smoothed to the way i want.

As you can see i have done this one before but i thought i'd do another one as it turned out well

These two are it upside down. Well it's two different ones at different stages of drying

I am so pleased with how this (well them) has turned out.

I have really been enjoying making these and i will being more as i hope that i will be able to sell some (trying to work out how much to charge). They haven't been fired yet but i have been able to colour them with a maroon velvet underglaze. The lighter one was had gone off completely (fully dried) and the other one is leatherhard (still damp) so there is a difference in the shade, i don't know if this will change as it drys but i will find out next week. They are now waiting to go into the kiln. Oh yes to get the colour on i painted it on like you would paint anything and it was so easy. You can get the underglaze in alsorts of colours so i can do a whole range of these.

Anyway i still have work to do and i will take photos of these in use which i can't wait for.

Ceramics part 2

So you start with this bucket of slip

And you then need a mould

You poor the slip into the mould and wait for 10 - 20 minutes

Poor off the excess slip and leave it upside down and at an angle for it to flash off. Once it has flashed off it looks like the photo below. Now you just have to wait for it to become leather hard and is then workable. Ii will take more photos as i work on it

Now i wasn't going to watch Lets Dance for Comic Relief but i'm so glad that i did. Comedian Robert Webb totally stole the whole thing by doing the what a feeling routine from flash dance. If you didn't see it here it is

Its funny and good at the same time. I know that i'm not the only one who is jealous of his legs.

The other routine that i really enjoyed was Dick & Dom doing The Blues Brothers Shake Your Tail Feather

Another week is over

It's hard to believe that this week was half term as i was in uni just about everyday this week. When i've been in i've been there until the workshop closed and i have enjoyed the time i have spent there. Even thou i have got lots done i still have lots more to do. I would have some photos but i forgot to take my camera.
Today i only manged to get in for a couple of hours today but i did get some work done. I have started to make the plaster cast for my mould so i can do the slip casting next week. Working with clay is so therapeutic and relaxing it makes it more worth while.

Anyway yesterday i went to the new ikea in southampton to do some research and it gave me lots of ideas for my final project. There is so much that i can do and now i am more positive about doing it where as before i wasn't to sure. It has really spurred me on to getting on to degree and having a career not just a job.
Oh what was i saying before i went off on one oh yes ikea. The store was really good seeing as it's only been open about a week. It was really busy and you did feel it as you have to queue for ages at the checkout and the cafe was so busy that i gave up on it. I did buy a couple of things that i needed while i was in there but i spent less than £10 so i was happy. (I have a birthday soon so can i please have money to spend in ikea). I did take a few photos going around the store and i wasn't the only one doing it. So here are a couple that i took

I have one more child free day left before Dom comes home from his grandads where he has been on and off all week. He was oringinaly picked up on sunday afternoon but came home tuesday night as on wednesday my brother and sister-in-law were down and they wanted to take him out for the day. So that is what happened, they took him to the cinema to Hotel for Dogs which he really enjoyed and he now wants a dog. On thursday i took him to southampton with me on the train and met my dad at the station and he dropped me outside ikea and he took Dom off with him so i could get on with some work. So i know that he has had a good week which is the important thing and i'll hear all about on sunday.

Ceramics part 1

This is the first pot that i have made and this was using a technique called slip casting. It's a relatively easy technique to learn and it was good fun. I plan to use this alot. The pot is a candle holder and for my current project it isn't finished yet as it hasn't fully dried so that it can go in to the kiln. When it comes out of the kiln i'm going to see about maybe enameling the inside as i think that that would be a good effect. I'll show you when its done.

Ok i know what you are going to say about the next photos that it just looks like a lump of clay and it does but it's shaped. I'm going to use this as a mould for the slip but as with all ceramics it takes time.

It is meant to kind of look like a stone (but i don't think it will look like a stone when its done and has holes in it to let the light out). I just can't wait to see the finished piece but that won't be until next week at the earliest.

Today i have finished my application for Degree. Writing the personal statement was the worst bit but at least its now done (well i still have to pay for it to be sent). It now goes to my tutor who will do a reference for me and when he has done that it will go to the right people to sort out an interview for me.

This is the statement that i have written

Since having my son 10 years ago i have re-discovered my creative side. I really enjoy playing around with different materials and can't wait to try new things. For the past 9 years i have done scrapbooking as a hobby which has helped me to have a creative outlet. With this i have worked with all sorts of new and different techniques but i have always felt that there was something missing.

I am currently on the Access to HE Art Design & Photography course and i have found the different aspects of the course very interesting. With all the different projects that we have been given i always seem to end up making something 3D. Having been given the opportunity to spend time in the workshops i have discovered that being able to work with the different materials is what i really enjoy and what i want to do. I am looking forward to being able to work with these at a different level and more in depth.

As i am a single mum i am used to dealing with lots of different things going on at the same time and being able to juggle it all successfully.

In my spare time i enjoy looking at different designers work and the designers that inspire me are Frank Gehry for the imaginary way that he uses wood and Jane Adam for her use of metal.

When i have finished this course my goal is to set up my own workshop and be a freelance designer.

At the moment i'm sat here at uni but i really can't do much because i can't use the workshop until monday because it's closed. It doesn't matter as i will have more time then.

I think its lunch time so i need to go and find something to eat.

The deadline has been and gone. I decided to make a handbag after playing around with the cards for ages. It's an evening bag and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Please tell me what you think. I would love to see it made out of something different.

As this one is finished we were given a new project to do. This brief is called MASS - MOVEMENT - TENSION. Great title isn't it?
I have a few ideas for it and i still have a few weeks till it has to be handed in (hand in date 6th march)

The past couple of days i have spent in the Ceramics and Glass workshop learning about all the techniques that can be done. For Ceramics it isn't just using a potters wheel you can do so much more and i can't wait till next week so i can get back in there and try different things for myself. The glass is just as good and has given me so many ideas. We were even given the time to have a go at sandblasting which is such a wonderful technique that i think i will be using alot in the future.
If you ever get the chance to try these things go for it as it isn't as hard as it looks because you can get amazing results from such simple techniques (you do need to come up with the ideas first).

I can't believe that this course is flying by because as soon this project is done we are on final piece which is put in a show that is open to the general public (scary)

Well apart from that not much has happened here. Oh yes i forgot Dom had his photo taken with the FA Cup a couple of weeks ago. What? I hear you ask, well as Portsmouth won the FA Cup last year they have been going round all the local schools so the children can have their photo taken with it (and touch it). We had a choice of how we wanted to get a copy of the photo

Are you jealous?

With the weather this week it didn't really affect us. Living on the South coast and at the bottom of a hill it didn't get too bad. On Monday it was off the roads and pavements by the evening and the same on Tuesday and we haven't had any since even though we were due for some today, we only had lots of rain.

Any way it's getting really late and i want to go and see whats happening on Twitter.
I'll be back another day (hopefully i won't leave it so long this time)

Another week finished

Well i still have no heating but fingers crossed it will be sorted this week.

I was back at uni this week after the Christmas vacation and it was good to be back. We were given a new brief and this one is quite fun. As it's our first elective piece and we have to make an object out of playing cards. At the moment i'm just playing with different techniques and its very enjoyable.

As we are now 4 days into 2009 it's hard to tell if its going to be a good year or not.
Dom is back to school tomorrow and I'm back to uni on Wednesday.

So whats been going on here lately?
Well Christmas was a nice quite one with just the two of us on Christmas day. Boxing day Dom went to the panto with my sister and then afterwards we went to her in-laws.
New year we went to a friends for the evening and had a great time.

We are sat in a cold house at the moment because my boiler was condemned on new years eve and we just have to wait for a new one to be fitted which hopefully won't be to long.
So at the moment I'm wearing lots of layers wrapped in a blanket and I'm also wearing fingerless gloves coz my hands are cold and i want to be able to use the laptop. Anyway that being said it's not as bad as it could be but cold enough so i can't do certain things but i won't go into that.

As its the start of a new year that means New Year Resolutions and i have made a couple this year. Nothing big but still something i want and they are

Cook from scratch more often
Blog at least once a week

New Project

Well this week we we're given yet another project to do. this one has to be handed in on the 11th December so it's not that long. This one is Recycled Animals and i think it's going to be really good.
This picture is of a Polar Bear and its baby by Tone Holmen and she made it using chicken mesh and plastic bags.
This is so what this project is about.
I have lots to do so i best get on with it.

Now where can i get some objects and what should i use.

The Art Piece for Self Identity

This is the final piece for the Self Identity Project. I'm really pleased with how it turned out even thou it isn't how i first envisioned it.
It has to do with representations and feeling caged. That with all the roles we have as women are pushing me down but i want to escape and become me again but i can't reach the key that is shutting me in.
I also managed to hand it in on time so that made me happy.

We just have a little break before we get the next project on Thursday and we only have about 3 weeks left till the holidays.

Self Identity

That is the title of the project that we were given last thursday (that we have to hand in on the 21st nov at 4pm). I'm enjoying this and i think the final piece will be good when i've done it. When it's finished i will put it on here and give all the details then. I will say that the main part is this cage (with thanks to one of my lectures). It needed some cleaning when i got it as it was covered in mud and rust and it also had a live worm on it. I'm taking plenty of photos so that i can show how it was made.
Best get back to it.

History was made in America

Barack Obama has been voted the next President of the USA. It really does show how times have changed and i think it's great. Even though I'm British I think it will impact on us all.
Who would have thought we would see an African American in the white house in our life times.
Last night i had to stay up and watch the results come in as i knew history was being made. It one of those times when in the future people will ask "where were you when?" I can answer i was watching it live on TV.
I listened to speech and i loved the part when he said that his daughters are going to get a puppy when they move in for being so good while he was campaigning.
I hope that he lives up to expectations.
History has truly been made and it was great to see it happen.

IF there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

It’s the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference.

This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that’s on my mind tonight is about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. She’s a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing – Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old.

She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn’t vote for two reasons – because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin.

And tonight, I think about all that she’s seen throughout her century in America – the heartache and the hope; the struggle and the progress; the times we were told that we can’t, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: Yes we can.

At a time when women’s voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. Yes we can.

When there was despair in the dust bowl and depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a New Deal, new jobs and a new sense of common purpose. Yes we can.

When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a democracy was saved. Yes we can.

She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that “We Shall Overcome.” Yes we can.

A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination. And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change. Yes we can.

America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves – if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made?

This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time – to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth – that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people:

I've been going through baby photos of Dom and I can remember how small and cute he was.
These photos were taken before i had a digital camera so i have been scanning them in and you can tell that.
This first photo was taken when he was a few days old and were still in the hospital

I love this second photo taken at a few months. This is such a fab outfit for a baby i just love the bright colours and the bright orange blanket.

This is one of the few photos i have of my gran and Dom. They were having such a fab time.

So that means Trick or Treating tonight. Dom has his costume which is the scream one (you know the movie) and i can't be bothered to dress up as i'll only be walking round with him. I will take some photos and put them on here later.
I haven't got a pumpkin but i have been looking at photos of them and there really are some truly amazing ones out there. Here are some that i think are either funny or great.

How much i love my laptop.

It's an Acer Aspire 5315 and so far does everything i want it to. I've had it for a few weeks now and it makes such a difference. It so much easier having it. I don't know how i got on with out it before..
Anyway i love it and it's going to be so useful for uni with the eassys and everything that i'll have to do.
Talking of essays i best get on with the one i'm doing at the moment. I have chosen the question but now i've just got to write it.

Just a quick update.
The course is going well and i'm looking into going on to do a Degree course next year. The one that i'm really thinking of is 3D design as i think it's more me. I did look at Interior design but the course isn't right. So all being well this wime next year i will be on a three year degree course.

It's only a week or so till half term and the break will be good. I know that it will be harder work after then as we will get the first big project soon. I think i'm looking forward to it.

Anyway what else have i got to say?
Apart from Uni not much else has been been going on. Dom is still going to boxing and enjoying it. The club he goes to is getting busier all the time and it's it good. They are hopefully going to be doing more classes and i'm thinking of joining one of them to keep fit. I don't think it will be for a while yet but i'm looking forward to it when it happens and i'll keep you informed.

I am so looking forward to season three of Heroes. I love this programme and have been waiting for this new season for ages after the last one being so short.
I know that i will be keeping an eye on this website for anything to do with the series. The trailer they are showing makes it look really good (If only i could find the trailer online).

Today a brand new fantasy drama started on BBC.
I think it's going to be really good. It's taken the slot of programmes like Dr Who and Robin Hood.
The following is what is writen on the BBC press office website

With the arrival of a young warlock in Camelot, a legend is born as Merlin, BBC One's epic, magical, adventure-packed drama starring Colin Morgan, Anthony Head and Richard Wilson, begins.

Merlin arrives at the gates of Camelot as a young man, sent by his mother to start a new life. Bright-eyed with wonder, Merlin steps into the square where a crowd has gathered. A man, accused by the tyrannical King Uther of using magic, is executed right before a horrified Merlin's eyes. In Camelot, the price for using magic is death. As the axe falls, an old woman, Mary Collins, swears that one day she will avenge King Uther for the death of her son, before disappearing into thin air.

A shocked Merlin makes his way across Camelot to find Gaius, the Court Physician. Taken by surprise, Gaius falls from the top of a ladder: instinctively Merlin reacts and uses his magic powers to break Gaius's fall. Instead of thanking him, Gaius turns on Merlin and warns him how important it is to keep his magic a secret or else he will face certain death.

As Merlin explores his new surroundings he sees a young man humiliating his manservant and decides to step in and stand up for the poor, ridiculed boy. This turns out to be a mistake on Merlin's part as he soon discovers the young man is the King's son, Prince Arthur. Merlin seems unable to heed Gaius's advice to stay out of trouble!

Merlin is thrown into the stocks as punishment for fighting Arthur and he meets a young maid named Gwen, who is clearly impressed by his heroic actions. Merlin, however, doesn't seem to notice her advances...

When Merlin discovers the Great Dragon he begins to understand his true destiny – he must use his abilities to protect Arthur, the future King of Albion. Merlin refuses to believe this.

Mary Collins returns to take revenge on Uther's son, Arthur, and Merlin must now take control of his destiny. Will he be able to save the young Arthur in time?

Merlin is played by Colin Morgan, King Uther by Anthony Head, Mary Collins by Eve Myles, Gaius by Richard Wilson, Arthur by Bradley James and Gwen by Angel Coulby. The Great Dragon is voiced by John Hurt.

Our First Project

I'm really enjoying Art School and hope to do it much better this year than last. Well I don't think that anything can happen to top last year. Anyway here is the first project that we had to do as a group. I took plenty of photos of us working on it and the finish piece.

So what do you think?

At the moment we are doing drawing using Architectural structures as our subject matter on A1 sheets in black and white.
I hate drawing but we have to do it.
Next week get a brief and i know that one is to with colour so it's more my thing.

I'm sat here in the refectory typing this and it's great to be hooked up to the uni wireless. I'm not using it all the time but it has it's uses. I don't have long before i have to go back up into the studio and carry on the drawing that we have to do this week.
Last weeks group piece is now finished and i upload photos later.

My first day at Art School

Yesterday was my first day and it was good. The group seems really nice so I think that it's going to be a good year.
We were give our first project that has to be done for next week. The good thing is that it's a group one so it helps us to get to know other people.
The project is to look at postcards and to do our own version of it. We are using two postcards and it will have a 3D effect using chicken wire and paper. I think it's going to look good. I will take some photos of it to show you what we have done.

Anyway i better get ready for college and i'll be back soon.

Some news

With everything that has happened over the last year things are finally getting back to normal. So whats the news i hear you ask well I'm back to college next week to continue my Art course. So I'm an Art Student again. I know that it's going to be hard work but i'm looking forward to it. It will be worth it if i pass (or should i say when i pass). All being well after this i will go on to do a degree in either Interior Design or 3D Design and after that i can get a ful time job in something that i enjoy.

Please wish me luck for this course as i know that i'm going to need it. It's only two and a half days a week but it's classed as a full time course. The studios that we use are available for us every day so when we have projects to do we can work on the days that we don't have to be in.

One of my favourite bits is the lectures we have on Art History. They are more than that really as they cover so many different things and give you a new outlook on Art.

So next week it's the start of lots of hard work.
I will keep you posted of all the things that we do and try and show all the finished projects and when i'm working on them.

I've been having a virtual window shop for stash and have found lots of thing i want to buy (and would if i had the money) and may do one day.
The first shop i went to for a look is Artist trading Post as i've never seen it before.
I saw these lovely paper Artsy stamps

There are six different ones here and i can already see so many projects i can use them for.

I went on lots more sites and the things that really stood out for me were the Maya Road products. I so need these

I will be on the look out for some cardstock but i have my eye on the new Basic Grey and it's not a bad price if i get it in the small pads. But i do want the 12 x 12 as well.

Only a week

It's hard to believe that this time next week Dom will have done one full day at school.
At times these holidays have gone by really slowly and at others it feels as if its been over in the blink on an eye.
So what are we going to do with the rest of it?
Well at the start of next week we are going to get on a train and go to Southampton. There is an Art gallery there that i want to see and Dom is happy to have a look. We will go to Build-A-Bear as we need to replace the meow in his stuffed cat Marmalade as it's been missing for ages. We'll also go to the pub for something to eat.
I think that it will be a good day.
Before we do that I've got to make sure that everything is ready for him to go back to school on Thursday. He will be going into year 5 and his teacher is Mr Bouldridge (i think I've spelt it right). One more year before we have to choose what his next school will be and he will be more grown up than he is now. Where does the time go? Sometimes i wish he was still the little smiley baby that he was.
Anyway they do grown quickly and eat you out of house and home. So I'm glad he'll be back at school so i don't have to spend so much on food. This boy has hollow legs and is skinny as a rake and it's not fair at least he can't eat when he's asleep.

This is my new baby. An HP Deskjet F2180 All-in-One. It prints, scans and copies and it only cost.. .............................................................................. wait for it.............................................................................. ............................£30 yes thats right. So i had to get it didn't i?
I can't wait to start using it as i've never had a scanner before.
There are lots of photos to scan and i can also scan the ATCs i've nearly finished.
Its going to be such fun.

Trip To the Zoo (Photo heavy)

Today we went to Marwell Zoo and we had a great time. Alan (my step-dad) took us as a treat which was really nice of him. I swear we are shorter now than when we got there as we walked our little legs off. You really don't think it's that big until you are walking around it and we didn't do it all as we ran out of time.
My camera is happy again now as i used it so much today after it being neglected for so long. 132 photos was the number i got to when we left and only a few of them are no good.
The animals i always have to see are the Cats coz i love them, I also have to see the Meerkats coz my mum loved them. The cutest cats there have to be the sand cats (if you can see them because they are the same colour as their surroundings) but the Ocelot and Snow Leopard are just as nice.

The Olympics

What is it with the Olympics that makes you just want to sit and watch it.
I'm not a sporty person but ever since this years games started i have been into it.
I am so proud of Team GB so far. We are doing the best we have in years. Records have been broken that have been in place for decades. At the End of today we had 33 medals, 16 Gold, 9 Silver and 8 Bronze. Rebecca Adlington winning two in the pool and Chris Hoy winning 3 on the track. Today saw us win in Athletics, Christine Ohuruogu got us Gold in the 400 metres.
The BBC website has lots more on it than i could ever do justice to and also their blog.

Test Day

As i posted yesterday it was test day. All the kids worked really hard and passed to get the medal for the level that they have reached. The ages were for little ones of 5 to 18 year olds with a mix of boys and girls. Each session starts with a warm up to get limber enough to box. This means all the muscles are worked on and lots of running around.
I took some photos but couldn't really get any action ones as they were too quick for me. This photo is of them all before the warm up.

Here he is during his test doing the different moves and being asked questions on the rules of boxing.

Finally taking a bow to the friends and family watching

He then had the presentation and he was given his medal and certificate by the national British boxing coach (for photo see here). There were also two other gentlemen from A.B.A Boxing there and i got Dom to have his photo taken with them.

He also had his photo taken with his favourite tutor Paul

The last photo is of Dom and Q Shillingford who is the coach and ran the camp and he will also be running the boxing school that will be starting on Monday 15th September.

Now i just need to work out where to put all these awards.

HE DID IT
Dom passed his test with a score of 86 out of 100. Last week he got 70/100 so its a vast improvement for the next level. I am so proud of him. It's been a long day so i will post more about it tomorrow. To be going on with here is a photo of him with the National British coach (i can't remember his name)

Here is Dom at the boxing camp and i think he looks good.

Will be back tomorrow with more photos after he has done his standard test. As it's the last day of the camp it will be good to watch them as they are going to have the head coach for british boxing there. So lots of chances to take photos so i can scrap them.
So fingers crossed this time tomorrow he will have his second medal. Wish him luck

Alsorts of stuff

Its been a while since i did any scrapping as i had lost my mojo but I'm finally getting it back. I have signed up for an ATC swap on on swap-bot. It's a swap on the colour purple and as i have lots of purple stash that will be easy.

I've started to do a canvas and it's going quite well so i'm pleased with it so far as i have no idea how it will look when it's finished. So fingers crossed.

As its been a while since i made anything i have just found something that haven't shared before. It's a minibook i made ages ago in a class taught by Kirsty Wiseman.

I can't believe that this is only the second week of the school holidays as it seems further in than that. Last week Dom was at Childrens University for 4 days which he really enjoyed. The first two days he made a clock out of plastic and it works. He had to use drills and alsorts of things to make it. It something to do with making a mould.
Then the next two days they were being Secret Agents, they didn't make anything this time.

Now he is in a Boxing summer camp (1 hour a day for two weeks) and he's really enjoying it. At the end of each week they get to do a small test to get a medal. So as long as he completes each week he'll get two medals. Then in September he can join the club and earn more. He is doing really well and wants to carry on so i will let him. It's not expensive to do why not.
I have told him if he carries on enjoying it i will buy him a punch bag for christmas. So we'll see how long it lasts but to be honest i think it will last.
I'm not that into boxing but it will do him the world of good to do it.

A lot of time has passed since i was last on here but not much has happened.
I think that i have let down alot of people that have been really good to me. I want to make it up to them but i don't know where to start.
I have been really depressed lately and when i get like that i shut myself away from the world and stop doing what i should be doing and this means that people get hurt then i really am sorry.
I do it all the time so that in the end the only person that suffers is me. I now have no one to turn to because of this. Don't feel sorry for me because i have brought this on myself and i deserve everything that comes with it.
I don't have any support no friends IRL. My sister is no support and ny brother lives to far away. My step dad is around but i can't turn to him in the same way.
I know i have to turn my life around but its easier said than done.
I need to get back out in the world so i think that the first step is to get a job. Just something little but at least i will be out of the house.
This needs to be done and get out of the wallowing heap i have been in for months.
Starting now i will start things afresh and i hope i can make it up to all the people i have let down.

I'm finally back online at home at its great.
I have really missed it.

Well i'm busy with stuff for my course and i'm still enjoying it so i'm thinking about going on to do a degree in october. That is all being well.
At the end of last year i had a test to see if i need and extra suppot and it turns out that i do. So i will be getting lots of extra support. I have been saying for years that i'm dsylxic but have never been tested till now. It feels good to know i was right all along.
Back soon as i have lots of surfing to catch up on

I'm still waiting for my broadband to be connected but luckerly i can use the internet at college for free.
Oh yeah i didn't say did i.
In september i started a course at uni. Its Access to Art, Design and Photography.
I'm really enjoying but with everything that has happened recently i have missed alsorts of things. But i can catch up so thats not to bad.
Yesterday we got given a project that looks really interesting and i've got to go and do some research. But its been raining and its really windy so that will have to wait a while before i go and do it.
I think i better get on with something so i'll be back soon

Well today went well and i didn't cry until i got home and read what some on line friends had writen. It was a lovely service and mother would have been pleased.

Well, you’ve all scrubbed up well! You do realise of course that Jan would be taking photos to scrapbook all this?

I’m doing this for 2 reasons. One because Jan knew that I’m a show-off who does a half hour turn if the fridge light goes on and secondly because I promised. I asked Jan to read ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ at my wedding. It made her cry so much that in revenge she made me promise to read her eulogy.

Which she would write for me.

Which she forgot to do.

So she stitched me up!

Not as stitched up as Alan though, he inherited Jans mobile phone!

Jan was quite simply one of the nicest, wittiest and most intelligent people that I have ever met. I’ll give you an example of how intelligent she was. She could read Pension and Unison paperwork and understand it!

She also used her wit to deflate pompous situations. In the very politically correct mid-80s Jan was at Southampton University. One day a Feminist society put up a poster.

“ Will any students who have been sexually harassed and feel upset please send any relevant details to Femsoc etc”

Jan put up a poster underneath saying “ Will any students who have been sexually harassed and didn’t like it please send all relevant details to those of us who haven’t and would!”

Jan had an interesting life and one day at work, shortly after we had first met, she was telling me her life story whilst we were on the First floor tidying books. After a while we noticed that it had gone very quiet and we turned round to see all the students leaning back in their chairs….listening!

Jan loved parties and we had lots of them. Winter and Summer solstice parties, birthday fancy dress, in fact absolutely any excuse! Alan would always document the events with his great photos. She and I always used to worry about there being enough food, which led to the famous phrase…”Never knowingly under-catered”

I think John Lewis borrowed that and changed it a bit.

One of our last parties was the ‘Dead Royals’ party. I was having problems with my costume and Jan was having problems with her cooking.

I rang her up in a bit of a strop and shouted “ I’ve just thrown my costume on the floor and stamped on it!” “Good idea” she said “ I’ve just done the same thing with the hot water crust pastry!”

The gang of us also had some great weekends away. Mad times on the Isle of Wight, competitive pudding eating in the Cotswolds….all sorts of larks!

One winter we went to the St Nicholas Fayre in York. We had a great time shopping and Alan had a great time in the Railway Museum.

In the evening we went to Russells, an all you can eat Yorkshire carvery. So we ate all we could. Obviously.

We staggered back to the B&B( which Jan swore had moved further away!) We were halfway up the stairs to our rooms when I groaned and said that we would all probably explode and leave nothing behind but our boots and hats.

Jan said “Just boots and hats? If you and I explode Lynn, there’ll be bits all the way to Halifax!”

Even in her illness Jan was full of self-awareness & wit. After her diagnosis she was taken into hospital quite quickly to have the primary tumour removed. She was assigned not one, but TWO surgeons. Jan said they were putting on a Tag Team! But her brother Jim said “ Nope, ones going in and the other ones going to hold on to his ankles!”

Shortly before she died Jan said to me “ Well its not the end of the world if I die. Apart from affecting few people I wont leave much of a hole”

Jan, for once, you were very, very wrong.

Well, I must stop now but I really have enough material for a double DVD & extras!

Tomorrows the day we lay mother to rest and I'm so glad that its happening before Christmas for the kids. It will mean that they can enjoy themselves without feeling guilty.
I talked to Dom about the funeral but i have no idea if hes taken it in or not. Its so hard to tell with him. But we'll see how he manages with it and take it from there.
Mothers best friend started a facebook group to remember her and we are looking for photos to add to the ones we already have. I may end up scrapping them at some stage (whenever that is). So if you have some please can you send them to me at bellatheboss@yahoo.co.uk
I am doing a memory box for Dom and in it i want people to write down good memories they have of mother so he can see how loved she was by other people and how she touched their lives as well as ours so if you want to be included just get in touch with me and I'll give you more details.

This time tomorrow we'll be on our way to the wake to remember her in a way she would have wanted.
I'm wearing clothes i have taken out of her wardrobe and Dom is wearing a new shirt i got for him the other day.
If you are not coming and want to be with us in spirit then could you wear something red as it's her favourite colour.

Going to get my hair cut first thing in the morning coz i now mother would have wanted me to and i haven't had it done for ages. Wish me luck that it turns out well.

I've got some more bits for Dom for Christmas and one of them is driving me mad. How do i wrap up a skateboard? I have no idea. Everything else is wrapped and in a good hiding place so i know i don't have to do that. All i have to do is put the tree up and do the food shopping.

I can't believe that Christmas is so close. I'm glad that i started some of my shopping in November as starting now would be a nightmare. Last night i sat and wrapped up all the stocking fillers that i have got for Dom and i think i need to buy more to make up for what he won't have this year. Mother always went overboard with things for him as his dads family aren't interested. I just feel that i have to step up and do it. So I'll hit the shops again next week.
The best thing is that today a friend got hold of a Nintendo DS lite for me for Dom. I promised him one ages ago ad recently found out that everywhere was selling out really quickly. I was beginning to panic as i so wanted him to have it on Christmas day as he just can't go with out. Now with thanks to Wendy he won't have to. Wendy you're a star.

On Friday 7Th December 2007 at about 3.30pm mother finally lost her long fight against the dreaded Cancer. It was very peaceful in the end as she went in her sleep. We were all with her at the end.
It is a relief that its all over and there isn't anymore suffering.

We are now just waiting to arrange the funeral. No idea if that will before or after Christmas as this is a bad time of year.

A good friend Dolly (Karen) posted this lovely post on her blog which i think you should all read.

Its been a while

I keep meaning to blog but things keep stopping me.
One of the major things that is happening here is that my mum is dying.
Three years ago she was diagnosed with Renal cancer and it had spread to her lungs. They removed the kidney and tumor which was huge. She was then OK up until recently. In July she got what we thought was Gout but later turned out to be bone cancer. In September after a CT scan we were told that the cancer had spread to her Bones, Liver and Breast. Since then she has really gone down hill.
She is now in a hospice and her kidney is failing so we have been told that we will lose her in the next week or so.
On Saturday we told Dom that she's dying and so far he has taken it really well. I am leaving it up to him as to whether or not he wants to see her and so far he does. So tomorrow he's having the day off school so we can go to see her (it's more important).
I'm sort out support for him so that there are people he can talk to and things we can do to remember her in a positive way. One thing we are going to do is a memory box as i think that will help him in the long term.

Its been one of those weeks.
Last week i signed up for a Top Designer competition over at Bad Girls and each week if get through there is a class and you have to do project for it. Week 1 was colour theory and this is what i did.

This is a LO of My DS (Dominic) age 8 wearing with pride a handmade bead he got for his birthday called Dominoe
I think he looks so grown up that i wanted this to have a feel of sophistication and pride.
I hope that it comes across that way.

I chose these dream street papers because i felt that they matched the colour of my sons shirt and while still being boy they come across as more grown up.

I uploaded this last night and now i have to wait and see if i got through to week 2. I have at least 4 hours to wait so wish me luck.

Well it was fun and games here Wednesday. Dom came home early from school as he was ill (they never send a child home unless they think something is really wrong). About 7pm he starts complaining that all his joints ache, tummy ache, headache, feels really warm to the touch and then complains that the light hurts his eyes. So I 999 ambulance comes and he's taken into the children's assessment ward at the local hospital. When they take his temp it is 39.1 and is given paracetamol and by the time he is seen by a doctor is fine and back to normal.
We were there about 3 hours as he was admitted at 7.50 and we were home by midnight.
He has got some sort of infection but not sure what at the moment. He has two spots on his tonsils that could turn into something but who knows.

He's gone to school today and they haven't phoned me to go and get him so he should be OK. He'll be home in about an hour now so I'll see how he is then.
Looks like it was just a 24 hour thing.

I took these photos of him the other day when he was on the phone to his best mate Ben. He looks so cute. I just wonder what he will be like when he's a teenager as they were on the phone for about an hour then. He is watching TV at the same time as being on the phone and Ben was at the other end (it was the same programme).

Summer Holidays are over

Its true as Dom went back to school this morning. He is now in Year 4 with the same teacher Mr W Stallard. Its good for him to have a male teacher as he doesn't have many male role figures in his life. Anyway he went of happy so that makes me pleased.

Last week we had another day out and this time we stayed close to home. For a cheap day out we went to Charles Dickens Birthplace, The Natural History museum and Southsea Castle. We also went to the funfair and went on the waltzers and the dodgems. After the funfair we went to the pub for dinner.

Our first stop was Charles Dickens Birthplace as it is so close to home and cheap to get in. Dom found it interesting witch was good and took the information that they called the sitting room THE PARLOR back to school.

Next came the Natural History museum as it was free. He loved the fact that they had dinosaurs and a bit about the Portsmouth from the Ice age to now. There is a butterfly house there and we only saw a few butterflies as its the end of the season. We will go back in season so we can see lots of them.

Then we walked along the beach to southsea Castle. It cost £3.50 for me but free for Dom. There were lots of cannons and of course they had to be climbed on. One bit did scare the hell out of him and that was the time tunnel. This was a kind of play telling the history of the castle using a recording, dummys and lots of flashing lights.
We also went down in the tunnels but they didn't take us too far. I want to go back and do the ghost walks but kids have to be 12 so we'll have to wait a while for that.

We then didn't know what to do so we carried on walking along the sea front to the pier where the fun fair is. so we got some tokens went on a couple of rides. Dom wasn't too sure about the Waltzers as it went faster than it had the last time he went on it. As we didn't have enough tokens to have a dodgem each i let him drive and hes so funny doing it. I also have a bruise on my leg from his driving.

So it came time for dinner and we went to Weatherspoons as its cheap. Dom had sausage, mash and beans and i had a curry. For pudding we had Mint Chocolate Bombes and they were lovely. I also had a Raspberry Sambuca Spritzer that was like aniseed and candy floss.

We had a good day and i think we'll do it again now i know it doesn't have to cost a fortune to have a good day out with my son.

Today is the 30th Anniversary of the Death of Elvis Presley.
He was the king of Rock and Roll and the biggest legend of all time. All i know about this man is what i hear. I have seen some of his films but it doesn't really mean anything to me. The reason for that is that when he died i was only 4 months old. This was a huge loss in my lifetime that i will never remember because i was too young. I really don't know how i should fell about that. Its just one of those things.

The idea is as follows

Because you shouldn't have to look at your blog like it is a treadmill.

Because its okay to just say what you have to say. If that makes for a long post, fine. Short post, fine. Frequent post, fine. Infrequent post, fine.

Because its okay to not always be enthralled with the sound of your own typing.

Because sometimes less is more.

Because only blogging when you feel truly inspired keeps up the integrity of your blog.

Because they are probably not going to inscribe your stat, link and comment numbers on your tombstone.

Because for most of us blogging is just a hobby. A way to express yourself and connect with others. You should not have to apologize for lapses in posts. Just take a step back and enjoy life, not everything you do has to be "bloggable".

Today Dom and i have been ARTY.
I am so behind on Emily Falconbridge's Art journal Journey that i thought it was about time i did a couple. As yesterday she posted prompt 32 and i had only done 12 it was about time. So i have done two more and i will post them later. Dom just did the one but he can do another one tomorrow. I'll post the photos as soon as i've taken them.

I have finally decided on my class for my next crop. Well classes. As mother is going to be on holiday there will not be a LO class this time unless i can think of one, so i have thought of something else that they could do in the afternoon if they want. Its not set in stone at the moment so i can always changed my mind for the afternoon class but the morning is set and I'm going to start on that ASAP. I just hope its as good as i want it to be. Well every has enjoyed what I've done so far so that bodes well. Wish me luck.

Dom's sleep over

Last night Dom went to friends house for his first ever sleep over.
He was picked up at about 12pm yesterday and came home at 10:40am today. I was told that he was good as gold all the time they him. They even phoned me to ask what time he normally went to bed and if i minded him staying up later. They seem a really nice family and i'm happy for him to go again.
They went to the funfair and had McDonald's so he came home happy.

At the moment he's out playing (he's only just gone).
Tomorrow he'll be back at play scheme which is great fun and only on for 3 weeks so he's making the most of it. Last week they went Ice skating and swimming. This week i think its swimming twice. I have to sort out a pack lunch for him everyday and hes enjoying that as at school he has school dinners.

I just can't believe that the holidays are half way through already. Nearly time to sort things for the new school year.

Here are some photos of our day trip. Dom loved the Rays. When i started to take photos of the rays they were all there showing off it was so funny. The Giant Sea Turtle was so gentle.

We saw lost of others like:-

And lots of others that i can't remember.

We had a great day and even had time to play on the beach.

The plan was to go to the pub for dinner and then get the train home but that didn't happen as they stopped serving kids in the pubs at 5pm. I was not happy. So we ended up in Pizza Express.

Well i hope so.
Dom went away at the weekend for a few days with my brother and his wife to the Isle of Wight.
I stayed home as it was the weekend of my crop.
The crop was very quiet but we had a good day and everyone enjoyed themselves. I taught a fab canvas (that i will upload a pickie of as soon as i have one)
As it was my weekend of freedom i had a date with a guy i met online and have met once before. We have been texting and talking most days and get on really well. Anyway he ended up in hospital (no it wasn't anything that i did). He's fine now but has to take it easy for a while.
We will see each other as soon as we can.

Last day of school for Dom tomorrow. so that means he's home for SIX WEEKS. What fun.
Shouldn't be too bad this year as he is booked into a play scheme for 3 weeks of it. He will be picked up and dropped off everyday. It will be really good for him.

Saturday is my brothers birthday which also means its the anniversary of my mums diagnosis. Its been 3 years now. We never thought she would still be here now. So its a big family dinner then, i think its going to be Chinese.

Now i need to sort out a child free weekend to make up for this one. Wish me luck

I have just finished my first 6 x 12 LO and i really love this size. I really think its a lot easier and i will being doing lots more like this.
This LO is for my 30th birthday and i have to finish the journaling on it.
The reason why I have used circles is because of the UK Dare blog called Collectively Yours. This week the challenge was to use cirles or a meaning of circles.

1] I found out i was pregnant 4 weeks before giving birth.
